We collect only what we need to operate the platform. We never sell your data. All payments go through PayPal — we never see your card details.

    BomaBooks is an independent digital publishing marketplace that connects authors ("Sellers") with readers ("Buyers").

    We are a catalog platform, not a payment processor. All financial transactions occur directly between buyers and sellers through PayPal and other third-party processors.

    Information We Collect

    We collect minimal information necessary to operate the platform.


    Information you provide directly:

    Name and email address when you create an account (via Google OAuth)
    Author profile details you choose to enter (bio, website, social links)
    Book listings you upload as an author
    Reviews you submit on book pages
    Email address if you subscribe to our reader newsletter

    Information collected automatically:

    Basic usage analytics (page views, clicks) via anonymous tracking
    Download events tied to purchased book titles (no personal identifiers)
    Browser type and device information for compatibility purposes

    We do NOT collect:

    Payment card numbers or financial credentials
    Passwords (Google handles authentication)
    Sensitive personal information

    How We Use Your Information

    We use collected information only for the following purposes:


    To operate and improve the BomaBooks platform
    To display your author profile and book listings to readers
    To send newsletter updates if you have opted in
    To allow authors to track download activity on their own books
    To respond to platform-related support requests
    To detect and prevent abuse or fraudulent activity

    We do NOT:

    Sell your personal information to third parties
    Use your data for targeted advertising
    Share your information with data brokers

    Google OAuth & Authentication

    BomaBooks uses Google OAuth for sign-in. When you authenticate via Google:


    We receive your name, email address, and profile photo from Google
    We do not receive your Google password
    Your session is managed via Supabase Auth with secure, short-lived tokens
    You can revoke BomaBooks' access to your Google account at any time via your Google account settings at myaccount.google.com

    We store the minimum user profile data needed to display your account and author information.

    Cookies & Local Storage

    BomaBooks uses browser storage to improve your experience:


    Session cookies: Required for authentication and keeping you signed in
    localStorage (cart): Your shopping cart is stored locally in your browser — it is never sent to our servers
    localStorage (consent): We store a flag to remember that you have accepted this privacy notice

    We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking cookies.


    You can clear browser storage at any time via your browser settings. Clearing session storage will sign you out.

    Third-Party Services

    We use the following third-party services to operate the platform:


    Supabase — Database, authentication, and real-time features (supabase.com)
    PayPal — Payment processing. BomaBooks does not handle or store payment data. PayPal's own privacy policy applies to all transactions (paypal.com/privacy)
    Google OAuth — Sign-in (policies.google.com/privacy)
    Remixer Forms Service — Email delivery for receipts and notifications

    Each of these services operates under its own privacy policy. We are not responsible for their data practices.

    Data Retention

    We retain your information as follows:


    Account data: Retained while your account is active. Delete your account to remove it.
    Author profiles and book listings: Retained until you delete them via the Dashboard or request removal.
    Download event logs: Retained for 12 months for analytics purposes, then automatically purged.
    Newsletter subscriptions: Retained until you unsubscribe.

    Your Rights

    Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:


    Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
    Correction: Request corrections to inaccurate personal data
    Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data
    Portability: Request your data in a machine-readable format
    Objection: Object to certain types of processing
    Withdrawal of consent: Withdraw consent for newsletter communications at any time

    Children's Privacy

    BomaBooks is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.


    If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, please contact us at sales@bomarbooks.com and we will promptly delete it.

    Security

    We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including:


    Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
    Secure token-based authentication via Supabase
    Row-level security policies on all database tables
    No plaintext storage of passwords or payment credentials

    However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security and are not liable for unauthorized access beyond our reasonable control.

    Changes to This Policy

    We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.


    Continued use of BomaBooks after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.


    For significant changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify registered users via email.
